One of the joys of teaching is continuing to learn. I’ve been teaching about hymenoptera (bees, wasps, hornets, ants) for several years. I am a beekeeper with bees on campus; I maintain habitat for native bees; and I teach about leafcutter ants. And I’ve been teaching field ecology with my Mayan partners in Guatemala for almost two decades. But I only recently learned that the Mayans kept indigenous bees for honey.
